Temperature Charts

How do I use a temperature chart?

One of the first things I suggest when clients come to me with hormone imbalances or fertility struggles is doing a temperature chart. It’s sometimes known as a BBT chart which means basal body temperature. It’s best taken at the same time each morning as soon as you wake up. Then you can log it on an app or a paper chart, whichever works best for you.

The device you use can vary, from a Fitbit or similar device to a basic thermometer that does the trick just as well. They can vary in price as some pair with your phone so you don’t have to do the charting.

It gives us so much information on where your hormones are at, as temperatures should be going up and down at certain points in your cycle. If this doesn’t happen it points us in the right direction of treatments and supplements, if needed. It’s a great way to let you know if you’re ovulating too, as temp dips then, goes up at this point.. It can also tell us if you need to get your thyroid checked out too if temps are too low or high.

It’s such a simple way of giving us lots of information on just what your hormones are up to, and it’s great to see when treatments are working too, when a chart that’s all over the place settles down to where it should be and you start feeling better. Why not give it a try?
