My Amsterdam

Last week I took a trip to my favorite city, Amsterdam. I have been visiting there for around fifteen years and love it! I have made some fantastic friends, which I now class as my "Amsterdam family".

As soon as I get through the doors at Central Station it feels like I'm home. There is so much more to this amazing city than its reputation for drugs and the red light district. So let me introduce you to my little bit of Amsterdam...

For somewhere great to stay try Conscious Hotel in Westerpark, it’s such a fantastic eco hotel in a beautiful park. It has loads of lovely cafes and bars in the area. It’s not mega touristy in around here, so its a little bit quieter than the hustle bustle of the centre.

First off you have The 9 Streets area, which is jam-packed with great shops and cafes along its pretty streets. There's Het Spui which is a lovely Square, and is a perfect place for a reading, relaxing, or if you're like me a bit of people watching. Another spot for a moment of tranquillity is the The Begijngof, you won't believe you are still in the heart of the bustling city.

For a gentle stroll that has a bit of everything head down to the Haarlemmerstraat — shop's like Six & SonsRestoredTenue de Nimes and & Klerering are great for homewares and clothing. Or if vintage clothing is more your thing, pop into Marbles Vintage. & Bij Ons. For food and drink, I love Teun, Mossel and Gin and Stout, all fantastic for a midday or an evening re-fuelKeeping on the food tip, for the best coffee and breakfast in town, head to Coffee Roastery WesterPark There is also the oldest cinema in Amsterdam, The Movies if you fancy a film! Then after your days wandering, in the evening get your dancing shoes on and dance the night away in PacificParc (I told you it had a bit of everything).

Amsterdam has a very green way of living, maybe it's because cycling is the most popular mode of transport. If the sun is out, why not hire a water bike and see the City from the water, and gaze up at the beautiful buildings. There are so many cool food shops too, like STACH where you must try the chocolate with salted caramel — it is to die for! And hey, you've earned it after all your walking and exploring. So what are you waiting for? Get on your bike and visit this wonderful city soon.
